Spring Little Sit - Borski Park
Join Philly Queer Birders, In Color Birding Club, Feminist Bird Club Philly, Philadelphia Center for Adaptive Sports, and Disability Pride Pennsylvania for a stationary birding event, the Little Sit, at Robert A. Borski, Jr. Park on Saturday, May 2nd 8:00am-11:00am! This will be a morning of intentionally accessible birding and we encourage people with all skill levels to attend (even if you have never been birding!) If you have an accessibility question, request, or need, please include it below and we will do our best to accommodate.
The Little Sit is our answer to a typically day-long, stationary birding event called a “big sit,” where groups try to see as many birds in one location as possible. For our event, folks are welcome to show up at any time between 8:00am-11:00am and stay for as long or as short as they want. We’ll have snacks and refreshments and encourage people to bring chairs, picnic blankets, or anything that will make you comfortable for a morning stationary birding. We’ll have name tags so you can easily meet other birding friends!
Accessibility info:
– 2 Accessible rest rooms and a porta-potty
– Drinking fountain and bottle filler
– We plan to host the Sit near the lawn area, approximately 100 ft from the parking lot. Terrain is flat — packed crushed gravel and mowed grass.
– Large parking lot with 2 designated accessible spaces — we can reserve extra accessible spots with parking cones, please indicate in registration if you require accessible parking.
– Multiple benches along the path
– The sit will last 3 hours, though birders can show up and leave at their leisure.
We do not currently have a cap on attendees as we want to welcome as many birders as possible, but we do appreciate registration for planning and communication purposes.
In Color Birding can offer reimbursement for ride shares for those who require it in order to attend the event. This is open to ALL attendees. Please indicate in the registration form below.
Robert A. Borski, Jr. Park is located at 3150 Orthodox St and can be accessed by the 25 or 73 bus (1/2 mile walk), car, or by bike (racks on site with room for 8 bikes). Many extra binoculars will be available for those who need it and we will have scopes to view birds farther away! We can expect to see many spring migrants making their way through the city.
