FDR Park
Join ICB on Sunday, Augst 30th from 8am to 11am for a lovely outing at FDR Park. We will explore the trails around the lakes and enjoy our birding community in one of the most iconic parks in the city. We will meet at the Boathouse and start our birding journey there. We will walk paved trails that are generally flat with very little incline. We will move at a birders pace (slow). There are benches throughout the park for rest if needed. We will do a loop back to where we started.
In the fall we are looking for migrants. Funky looking warblers have already started to show up in the region and we may see a few cool wading or shore birds along the banks of the lakes.
There is ample parking at the park including accessible spots. The trails are mostly paved/gravel with few spots of grass dirt trails. The trails are flat with very little incline at some spots. There are restrooms at the Boathouse as we begin and end. Mobility devices are welcome and we will adjust our route to fit if need be (please indicate in RSVP). This time of year it can start cool or hot and likely will end up hot. Please wear clothes/shoes that you will feel comfortable in based on the weather forecast. Bug spray and sun block are always welcome depending on your preference.
This activity is for birders of all levels! We want to encourage families and friends to disconnect from the hustle and bustle of the everyday mundane routines, connect with nature, birds, and other community members looking to do the same.
